Moving to South St. Paul

South St. Paul would like to extend a heartfelt welcome to our new residents making their home in our community. Situated along the banks of the Mississippi River, South St. Paul is a hidden gem in the heart of Minnesota. The South St. Paul Library is easy to find at the corner of 3rd Avenue and Marie Avenue. This full-service library has something for everybody regardless of your age. Adults can participate in the Adult Reading Program for a chance to win prizes. There are also book discussion groups that adults can join and Internet classes for those who are not very computer savvy. Children can join in the storytimes and events, such as reading clubs and discussion groups designed for their age. There is also a Teen Center on the lower level where teens can check out graphic novels, CDs, videos and more. To get a library card, you simply need to be a resident of South St. Paul or the surrounding Dakota County and show some form of ID. The Municipal Service Center of South St. Paul is responsible for maintaining the streets and utilities in the community. The facility headquarters is located at 400 East Richmond and it is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. When you decide to move into your new home in South St. Paul, contact the Utility Customer Service Representative at (651) 554-3209 to get a final reading on the water meter so your bill can be as accurate as possible. Utilities are billed on a quarterly basis. These utilities include water, storm sewer, sanitary sewer and street light service. Water bills reflect your usage in 1,000 gallons. You can pay by check, cash or money order. The Utilities Department does not take credit or debit cards at this time.

The Central Square Community Center in South St. Paul is your complete place for fitness and wellness. The center has been around since 2002 and it includes modern exercise equipment. Areas within the center include a full fitness room, activity rooms, gymnastics center, indoor pool, meeting rooms and a complete senior center for more mature adults. From June to August, the center is open from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sundays. The South St. Paul community believes in recycling to help create a better tomorrow for our children. As a result, there is a recycling program in place to make everything easier for you. You can recycle metal cans, plastic bottles, junk mail, catalogs, phone books, newspapers and more.
